GNSS/Inertial Factoids

The inertial navigation system or INS was invented by Charles Stark Draper. He demonstrated the first operational INS, called the MIT FEBE, in 1949. "Doc" Draper is hence known as the "father of the INS". A prestigious research institute, the C.S. Draper Laboratory in Cambridge MA, bears his name. (Source)

Photogrammetric Mapping

Photogrammetic mapping is the process of obtaining reliable geographic and dimensional information about physical objects and their environments through the recording, measuring, and interpreting of aerial photographic images. Photogrammetry is used in many fields including topographic mapping.

Applanix hardware and software systems are specifically designed for direct georeferencing of airborne sensor data. By integrating precision GNSS with inertial technology, photogrammetric mapping projects are completed more efficiently, effectively, and economically. Our solutions are engineered for use with aerial cameras, scanning lasers, imaging sensors, synthetic aperture radar, and LIDAR technology.

Applanix products for use in Photogrammetic Mapping applications are the POS AV™, POSTrack™, and the DSS™.
